Toyota recalls some Corolla, Highlanders and Tacoma models due to airbag problems

Toyota is pursuing a non-safety vehicle recall in the US for select 2023 Toyota Corolla, Corolla Cross, Corolla Cross Hybrid, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Tacoma, and Lexus RX and RX Hybrid, and 2024 NX and NX hybrid vehicles release. About 110,000 vehicles in the US are involved in the recall.
In affected vehicles, the coiled cable in the steering column may lose electrical connection to the circuit that controls the driver’s airbag. If this happens, the airbag warning light will come on and the driver’s airbag may not deploy in a collision. As a result, the vehicle will not meet certain federal motor vehicle safety requirements and may increase the risk of injury to the driver in the event of a collision.
For all vehicles involved, Toyota and Lexus dealers will verify the serial number of the coiled cable and replace it free of charge if necessary. Toyota will notify affected owners of the issue by early September 2023.
Vehicle recall information, including but not limited to lists of vehicles involved, is current as of today’s filing date and may change thereafter. To find out if your vehicle is in a safety recall, visit Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter your vehicle identification number (VIN) or license plate information.
